The Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas is located in Salzedas parish, Tarouca municipality, Portugal. Belonging to the Cistercian Order, date from the twelfth century, and its space was donated by the wife of D. Egas Moniz. Suffered expansion works in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, particularly in terms of the facade and the cloisters.
The Monastery surprises us in the middle of the small town houses, which formed around it, and its glory is marked by various decorative styles that has accumulated over time, from the Romanesque to a later, the Baroque. A National Monument is another example of the Cistercian Order. He became one of the richest Portuguese monasteries, holder of a remarkable library. Today is a point of essential visit for history and stylistic wealth terminating.
