The tower was built in the last quarter of the fourteenth century by the Countess Isabel, Lady of Viseu (2 October 1377), the king’s natural daughter Ferdinand I. According to a sustained little tradition, there would have been born King Duarte, 31 October 1391. With the death of Prince Henry, Duke of Viseu, the November 13, 1460, the tower came into the possession of the Chapter.
